Have you ever watched a veterinary medical show and heard the doctor speak to their staff using abbreviations and acronyms?  You may have heard phrases such as "500mg PO BID for 14 days" or "yellow, purulent discharge AU" or "the patient's blood work was WNL". These statements may have left you confused and wondering what the veterinarian was really saying to their staff.  


As a veterinary assistant in training, you will learn many of the important veterinary medical terms and abbreviations used on a daily basis. Learning these will help you effectively communicate with clinic staff during exams, procedures, surgery, and when filling prescriptions.
